<itunes:summary>Podcast – 7.9.2008 Next week, I will lead a delegation of Florida business leaders, scientists and community leaders on a trade and economic development mission to the United Kingdom, France, Russia and Spain. Florida shares strong economic ties with each of these nations, and we will work to strengthen those ties. Our focus will be forming partnerships that will benefit Florida’s international trade in aerospace, aviation and alternative energy – as well as learning more about economic opportunities from addressing the effects of climate change. Florida will participate in the Farnborough Air Show, the world’s premier aerospace event that will feature more than one thousand aviation and aerospace companies from around the world. Additionally, we will continue to promote Florida as a vacation destination. The United Kingdom is Florida’s top overseas tourism market, and we will work to draw more visitors to the Sunshine State. I am proud to be the first American Governor to visit Russia since the United States-Russia Economic Dialogue announced between our countries earlier this year. Additionally, our trade mission will include a delegation of experts addressing climate change. Last year, we began a partnership with the United Kingdom related to climate change. We will strengthen that partnership and also learn more about France’s leadership in alternative energy production, principally nuclear. We will learn – too – from Spain – the 2nd largest producer of wind energy and 3rd largest producer of solar energy. May God continue to bless Florida.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary> This week completed the 2008 legislative session. I’m proud of the work the House and Senate have done to protect Florida in this difficult economic time. I am very grateful to the Legislature for passing green energy legislation that will help increase energy efficiency and our use of renewable energy throughout our beautiful Florida. It will also provide a strategy for businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The legislation signifies Florida’s commitment to protect our natural beauty and stimulating our economy at the same time, as well as reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil. This legislation builds on the policy framework established by the Executive Orders I signed last summer to preserve Florida. Thank you very much and may God bless Florida. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This week I am pleased with the work of Senators Durrell Peaden and Don Gaetz, and the Florida Senate in passing legislation which will allow state government to negotiate with health insurers to develop affordable health insurance coverage for uninsured Floridians – at no cost to our taxpayers. This plan will help hard-working Floridians who are self-employed or working for small businesses that cannot afford to provide health insurance for their employees. Members of groups like the Florida Association of Realtors and the Florida Retail Federation, along with countless other independent businesses will benefit from the plan heading to the Florida House for their consideration. The bill contains no individual nor employer mandates. Employers would not be required to participate in order for their employees to benefit. Under the plan, private health insurers have indicated a willingness to provide benefit packages for $150 a month or less. Policyholders would also be able to carry dependents until the age of 30. The entrepreneurial spirit of Florida is what makes this such a great state. Small business owners and individuals should not be penalized for their hard work. They deserve the right to affordable health care and this plan passed by the Senate this week will help make health care coverage a reality for them and their employees. Thank you very much and may God continue to bless the great State of Florida.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>During these challenging economic times, we must remain focused on strengthening Florida’s economy. Florida is blessed with a variety of economic drivers. On Monday, I met with business, government and community leaders from Pinellas County to discuss economic development and transportation. On Tuesday, I joined President Bush in Jacksonville to announce investments in Florida’s infrastructure and ports. The Port of Jacksonville supports more than 50 thousand jobs and pumps $3 billion into the economy every year. This week we also celebrated Florida’s film and entertainment industry. It generates 3.9 billion dollars and creates almost 34,000 jobs statewide. Our film and entertainment industry also feeds our state’s tourism — Florida’s number one industry. Thank you very much and may God continue to bless Florida and enjoy your holiday weekend.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary> This week I am honored to proclaim March 16-22,“Sunshine Week” for the citizens of the State of Florida. This proclamation includes the protection of every Floridian’s right to access to public records. The role of Florida’s government is to serve our citizens and our Open Government laws provide the people with the necessary tools to hold us accountable for that service. An open and accessible government is vital to establishing and maintaining the people’s trust and confidence in their government as well as its ability to serve you the citizens—my boss. Always. Florida’s Sunshine Laws are among the strongest in the nation, but we do not take this fact for granted. According to the Constitution, power flows from you the people to their government. We must work hard each day and respect and preserve that public trust. Maintaining a transparent government is an integral part of that mission and I remain committed to upholding the ideals of open government. As Abraham Lincoln once said, Government should be of the people, by the people and for the people. Thank you very much and God bless Florida. </itunes:summary>
